Dr. Ploch
Dr. Ploch received his undergraduate degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas in 1978. From 1978 to 1979 he attended Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland and from 1980 to 1981 he attended the Wroclaw Science Academy in Wroclaw, Poland. Dr. Ploch returned to the University of Texas in San Antonio and was awarded his bachelor of science in biology in 1982. He received his medical degree from Texas Tech Medical School in Lubbock, Texas in 1987.
Dr. Ploch continued his post-graduate studies as a resident in general surgery and in urologic surgery at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. He was board certified by the American Board of Urology in 1996.
Dr. Ploch has experience as a clinical instructor, in the Department of Urology at the University of Washington School of Medicine and as a urologic staff physician at the Seattle Veterans Administration Medical Center. He is a member of the following societies: Alpha Omega Alpha, Southeastern Section of the American Urological Association, American Urological Association, and American Association of Clinical Urologists
Dr. Ploch has had articles published in several prestigious medical journals, including Contemporary Urology, Journal of Urology, Journal of Cellular Biochemistry and Urology. He has also made over two dozen presentations to medical associations, not only locally, but nationally and internationally.
Dr. Brisson
Dr. Brisson received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999 and received his Medical Degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 2003. He completed his residency training in Urology at the Mayo Clinic at Jacksonville, Florida, and was board certified by the American Board of Urology in 2010.
Dr. Brisson is one of the most experienced robotic surgeons in South Carolina. He uses the robot to perform a variety of cancer surgeries including radical prostatectomies, partial nephrectomies, radical nephrectomies and radical cystectomies. He currently performs more than 150 robotic procedures per year, and has performed over 1800 robotic surgeries during his career. In addition to performing oncological procedures with the robot, Dr. Brisson was the first physician in South Carolina to perform a sacrocolpopexy (repair of vaginal vault prolapse) using the da Vinci® robot. He now works with multiple gynecologist in Charleston to surgically correct pelvic prolapse both at the time of hysterectomy or after hysterectomy depending on the time of presentation.
His professional interests include female incontinence and prolapse (specifically robotic sacrocolpopexies), stone disease, and the application of robotic surgery to urological oncology. He has multiple presentations at national meetings and has published articles in several medical journals including Urology, Journal of Urology, and Issues in Urology.
He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the Southeastern Urological Association, and the American Urological Association.
Dr. Brisson lives in Charleston with his wife Scotty and his four children. When he is not spending time with his family, Dr. Brisson enjoys playing golf and fishing.
Dr. Nickles
Dr. Nickles grew up in Columbia, South Carolina where graduated from A.C. Flora High School where he was salutatorian. He received his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia in 2006 and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. He completed his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2010.
Dr. Nickles continued his post-graduate studies as a resident in general and in urologic surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina, and was board certified by the American Board of Urology in 2018.
Dr. Nickles has presented at several regional and national meetings on topics ranging from incontinence to oncology. He has published articles and book chapters in academic journals and textbooks on topics from sexual dysfunction to pediatrics. He is board certified by the American Board of Urology and is a member of the Southeastern Urological Association and the American Urological Association.
Dr. Nickles enjoys all aspects of urology and is trained on the da Vinci Surgical Robot. Dr. Nickles lives in Charleston with his wife and two daughters.
Dr. Vaughan
Dr. Vaughan is originally from Kentucky. He completed his undergraduate biology degree with honors in 2006 at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. While at Centre, he played varsity football where he was a 4-year letterman and elected captain by his teammates. He received his Medical Doctor degree with high distinction from the University of Kentucky in 2010 and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He then completed urologic surgery residency training at Medical University of South Carolina where he was awarded most outstanding resident, and was subsequently board certified by the American Board of Urology in 2017. While in training, he published in multiple national and international medical journals and presented his research on regional and national stages. Dr. Vaughan also earned a Master of Business Administration degree with finance concentration from Louisiana State University Shreveport.
Dr. Vaughan practiced Urology for 6 years in Pensacola, Florida before returning to the Charleston area. He is a general urologist who cares for all adult urologic concerns. Dr. Vaughan favors a comfortable, conversational, and relatable approach to medicine and encourages patients to be active participants and owners of their healthcare plans. His surgical interests include robotic and minimally-invasive cancer surgery, prosthetic penile implantation, male voiding dysfunction, vasectomy, and stone disease.
He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the Southeastern Urological Association, and the American Urological Association.
When he is not in the office, Dr. Vaughan can be found by the water, being active, or watching sports… especially his Kentucky Wildcats. He enjoys coaching youth sports and volunteering with his three kids and their extracurricular activities.
